Founded in 1983, GRAVIS is a leading non-governmental organization that works primarily towards drought mitigation to ensure access to clean water, provide food security and protect, promote and rejuvenate rural livelihood opportunities of the desert communities. At present, GRAVIS' service areas include more than 1500 villages across 8 districts of the Thar Desert in Rajasthan India and in states of UP and Uttarakhand. Aligning with our integrated rural development approach, our key activities spread across diverse development fields including water security, agriculture and animal husbandry, education and health. Here, interventions involve facilitating the construction of traditional rainwater harvesting structures, climate-resilient agriculture programs, multidimensional public health interventions and primary education with a focus on promoting girl child education. Adopting a gender and age-inclusive approach, women and the elderly remain at the forefront of all our activities. These are complemented by organizing capacity-building sessions and research and advocacy programs, which foster the community's ownership of natural resource management and play a key role in policy-making and scheme development. We reach out to about 1.5 million rural inhabitants with our holistic interventions.
